ARCHIVE
The Archive is a digital database of historical documents and images providing information about adidas’ product history. Currently the Archive is being used as a search engine to find inspiration from adidas classics and retro designs to influence product creation. This project was created as a proposal for adidas to evolve their archive platform and reimagine how they create, collaborate and provide confidence within the brand.
CULTURE
The Archive grants visibility to past concepts, but not to the design process behind their creation. Typically when using the Archive concepts (products) are searched by their name, model and/or year. However, with this proposal, concepts can be searched by their performance benefits, technology usage, team development and designer as well.
COMMUNITY
SEED (School for Experiential Education in Design) is a design program in partnership with Pensole at the Brooklyn Creator Farm supported by Pharrell Williams. While being part of the Innovation team working out of the Brooklyn Farm, I was given the opportunity to be closely involved with SEED as a mentor, advocate and student. From my observation and conversations with the students, the biggest barrier for SEED students, the creative community, myself and transitional designers is our lack of visibility and accessibility to the brands technologies, terminologies, and co-workers (designers, developers, marketing, etc.)
TESTIMONIES
PROPOSAL
The Archive grants visibility to past concepts, but not to the design process behind their creation. Typically when using the Archive concepts (products) are searched by their name, model and/or year. However, with this proposal, concepts can be searched by their performance benefits, technology usage, team development and designer as well. These sections will be split into two areas of focus: PERFORMANCE and EDUCATION.
PERFORMANCE
Focuses on the documentation of the design process with the inclusion of prototypes and testing results (successes and failures).
Designers can search for concepts based on its performance needs, benefits, and functionality. This will expose the design community to validated technologies within the pipeline, bring visibility to teams for networking opportunities, improve communication across departments, increase productivity between cross functions, and provide a more informed ideation phase for innovators.
EDUCATION
Focuses on the documentation of the design process with the inclusion of prototypes, testing results, cultural influences and storytelling.
SEED students will have access to performance driven research, validated concepts and understanding on how culture influences product creation. Students will become more familiar with the industry’s terminology and technologies while overcoming the obstacle of networking within a new environment.
PROCESS
The process demo will give you a deeper understanding into how I reimagined the Archive to help build connectivity, collaboration and community within the brand from a product creation point of view. This demo will highlight how the platform can be used as an educational tool. Due to confidentiality, the performance aspect of this platform will not be demonstrated.
COMMUNITY
There are multiple barriers that present themselves to women of color who desire to pursue a career within a creative community. From understanding the terminology to the functional developments of a product, maneuvering within a corporate setting has its challenges. My personal mission is to help uplift my community while improving the footwear industry where design becomes the tool for inclusivity, empowerment, and communication
