CARTOONS
This project was created during the pandemic to allow collaboration between various disciplines to promote fun and empowerment across social media platforms. Based off of research, subconsciously with animated series people begin to let down their barriers when watching cartoons which enables them to relax and become more acceptable to hidden messages within the show. Thusly, Allice was created to tackle difficult topics present within the black design/creative community -specifically- that I myself have a challenging time expressing.
ALLICE
Allice is a 14 years old, all-natural sassy, coily afro puff that brings encouraging messages throughout the day to help the audience on their creative journey. Initially, the story included myself and Aliice where we shared a dialogue on numerous touch points. These touch points where specific to teenagers whom struggle with the decision to follow a career in design without community support.
The stories quickly evolved from being 3 minutes to under a minute log to follow the trends set for TikTok and Instagram. Below you can find a couple of the episodes that were shared on social media.
INTRODUCING
SKY’S THE LIMIT
This animation was released on Feb 23 where Allice was channeling her inner Bessie Coleman, the first African American and Native American to hold a pilot license; and Mae C Jemison, the first black woman to travel into outer space. This animation was to help the audience recognize that their dreams are beyond the sky’s limits.
GOT GAME?
This animation was released on Feb 14, 2022 where Allice feels unstoppable once she puts on her favorite player’s jersey. She then asks the question in the chat below, “ What do you do to feel unstoppable?”
I strongly believe Allice is the perfect character to empower and help black kids feel more supported in both themselves and pursuing their dreams in a creative profession because they see themselves within these stories. Although Allice is currently on pause, she will be released again in different forms sometime in the future.
